There is no separate deposit protection scheme just for retirees. In England and Wales, a landlord or letting agent usually has to protect an assured shorthold tenancy deposit in a government-approved scheme and provide the required information within 30 days. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different rules, so check the relevant official guidance for where you live. If your deposit has not been protected or you cannot get it back, contact the scheme, Citizens Advice or a solicitor regulated by the SRA for guidance based on your circumstances.
