Contact the retailer, explain the fault and say what remedy you are seeking, keeping your receipt, order details and photographs. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, you may usually have a short-term right to reject faulty goods within 30 days, although specific rules can vary. After that, the retailer will generally be entitled to offer a repair or replacement first; if this is unsuccessful or disproportionate, you may be able to request a price reduction or reject the goods. The retailer, rather than the manufacturer, is normally responsible, and reasonable return or delivery costs may be recoverable where the goods are faulty. If the retailer refuses, check its complaints process and consider advice from Citizens Advice or a solicitor regulated by the SRA.
