Before the birth, keep in touch with your midwife or maternity unit, tell your GP about the pregnancy, and notify your employer so you can arrange maternity leave and pay. After the birth, register it with your local register office, contact HMRC about Child Benefit, and check gov.uk for Universal Credit or other support you may qualify for. Your maternity team or health visitor should explain postnatal care and how to register the baby with a GP.
