Your employer should consult you before making a final redundancy decision, explain the reasons, consider alternatives and use a fair, non-discriminatory selection process. If you are dismissed, you may be entitled to notice, statutory redundancy pay (usually after at least two years’ continuous service) and reasonable paid time off to look for work or training. Different rules apply where 20 or more redundancies are proposed, including collective consultation. If the process seems unfair, raise an appeal or grievance and contact Acas promptly, as employment tribunal time limits are short; check the latest rules on GOV.UK or speak to an employment solicitor.
