In England, a landlord or agent generally cannot charge most administration or viewing fees, and a holding deposit is usually limited to one week’s rent; rules differ in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Check the property’s safety information, including gas and electrical requirements, and ask how your deposit will be protected.
